thin window frame
Hi all
I am a complete amateur at woodwork and want to make a thin frame which holds the insect nets. Planning to make 2 rectangles (5 ft height x 3 ft widht )frames with a 1 inch wide 5 mm thickness wooden strip. glue the plastic netlon insect net between these two frames. But i am wondering as to how to handle joints.
Have read about mitre joint and butt joints. which one to use?
Am plannign to use this frame as sliding one just behind my existing glass/aluminium sliding windows , so want to make sure the joints are not weak so that the frame wont collapse on repeated sliding.
hope u experts have some insight and help on this.

From Indian hey??
I have this great phone deal that you may be intersted in, I wont take a moment of your time.
Just answer yes to any or all the below and I will reconnect you with a deal you cant resist.
Do you have a phone?
Do you have the internet?
Do you eat?
Do you drink?
One moment, we are nearly done.
Annoying isnt it?

Sorry, I forgot to say hi, and welcome to the mad house.

We get bombarded by the call center's from your country...
Window fly screen, Im guessing you want a total thickness of 10-11mm? Being so thin it wouldnt be easy to make a strong joint, 1/2 lap joints would be the best.
Do you really need to use wood as some aluminum frame work would be stronger.....................................................................

hi thanks for your suggestion.. thought of wood.. coz its easily available.. will have to hunt for aluminium strips of that size in markets.
And as far as calls are concerned.. its just business... the MNC companies want sales and pay the sales people for making such calls... if not from india you would get calls from your country or any other country anyways..we oursleves get 10 calls everyday for buying products, they arent called MNCs just like that- profit is their sole motive be it from india australia america or anywhere..
thanks anyways

Welcome to the nuthouse Brij!
Do you have hardware stores in India now? I visited 25 years ago, but I suspect it's a lot different now. I'm sure you could find one of those flyscreen kits available somewhere. They're made up of lightweight aluminiunm extrusions, with the better ones having a small mitre box to cut your own corner mitres. But the best bit is the 90 degree corner extrusions. You feed each mitred corner in to make a quick, easy and strong corner joint, and hey presto! No racking or sticking flyscreens. You could then use thumb catches to secure and remove, slide them in proprietory aluminium extrusions, or even rig up a hinge to get access to your windows. They're quick, relatively cheap and foolproof enough even for mugs like me.Sycophant to nobody!
