Old Threads
Yeah fine some one revived a post which was way old and more then likely the problem had been overcome in the 5 years since the original post, but hey aren't we all here to offer people help?
If someone's zealousness is manifested by offering help to a post they feel they have information to add and the post happens to be old does that mean that the help is in some way tainted or the information is useless?? Maybe to the original poster, but if we are offering information and help only to the original poster, then the forum would break down extremely fast.
As to having a go at people for not reading others posts - I read what people write, I don't read the time/date stamp on the post.... I feel information has no time limit
Had my rant, carry on.I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
Allan.

I agree.
The thread I think you're referring to was providing some good info which may have helped someone searching for info, (even though the originator must have worked it out by now).
As you say - there's no date on information.

Agreed
Not only that. . . Might have answered a question for other readers.
The info provided on the forum isn't "only" for the person who posed the original question. We can all benefit from the knowledge of others.
Can't believe how much I've learnt since finding this forum.
Cheers

Give me a break! Offering advise to a query that was posted 5 years ago.
Plus when they were gently told of the fact they kept on offering suggestions. Thats where the "dont you guys read other peoples posts came from.
And I think that was a fair comment. It is really annoying when someone joins a thread and they are way off the mark because they havent read all of the posts and dont understand whats being discussed.
Therefore read all the previous posts before adding your 2 bobs worth unless you want to get roasted.

Cliff, it relates to the thread started by Barrystumper in 2001, and recently a few people added their 2 cents to the posts. Subsequently they got "ripped" by some regular members  for posting 5 years late and not reading previous posts.
The end result was that Stuart locked it. A search on yesterdays posts (can this be done?) will reveal more, but I think this is brewing into a "storm in a teacup".
I will add this, I support the locking of the post.
the original thread was and is informative, and even though it is locked you can still read it.
The comment "don't you read the previous posts" was relevant. It seemed that all that was being posted was the same information, just re-worded by different posters. How many times do you need to be told in 1 thread that drilling and hand nailing is superior to a nail gun:confused:

Sorry you got upset Sigidi, but lets all move on, How did barrystumpers deck turn out in the end?
BTW I would love to see some pics of the finished deck.Last edited by felixe; 18th November 2006 at 01:28 PM. Reason: updated my information for accuracy once Cliff put me on the right track!

Oh well you get that sometimes.
It dosn't matter what buliten board you go on there will be lazarus posts comming back from the dead.
I have no problem with old threads being revived and added to but it does look silly when someone is directing specific advice or questions to one of the original posters.
then I think it is reasonable to point and laugh, so to speak.
I am curious how far back some people are reading and why to dig up some of these posts:confused:
It all adds to the amusment

I've dug back a fair way, there's some good advice commin from the dark ages of 2001.
aren't people who search out old threads rather than post every ol question they have kinda nice to have around?
bump away I say, if a thread from 5 years ago is to painfull to read again.. may I suggest that your memories are too good and you should all drink more.
or go an watch a bit of Idol... that'll do the same thing to your brain cells.

Yes
It is funny when you think about it. The US civil war began exactly as you call it. I do not think this will turn out to be an all in civil war. Just some people who think they are right against some people who think they are right. Who knows, maybe it is the people who do not think anything are the ones who are RIGHT??
Cheers Steve

Exactly Skew. I'm relatively new at this wood stuff, and normally do a search before asking anything. That's because the first response you get will be, quite reasonably, "have you done a search".
Searches pull up posts 5 years old and if the thread matches my query then I'll note the answer. If it was not resolved then I might ask the poster if they found out the information they were seeking. Hopefully I'll note the age of the post and ask in that context, but it won't stop me dragging up a 5 year old post if it helps me.
Those who don't like it...... presumably it's because you learned it all 5 years ago, you know it all already, and stuff those of us who don't. Ask the mods for a Self Proclaimed Experts Forum and go play with each other in that.
