    Default What timber is this?,...........

    Hi all,

    I've just finished making a box and used some of this timber in it. However I have no idea what it is. Two local woodwork mates thought,............some sort of oak,...............other thought turpentine.

    Any thoughts please. It is a very reddish timber with dark to black flecks running through it.

    Eucalypt of some sort, definitely not an Oak. Some closer shots including endgrain will help, there's not a lot to go by with that picture.

    Hi and thanks Rod. Not real sure, I've used Jarrah which is hard as a rock. This timber cuts and works lovely. It really soaked up my Danish Oil also.

    Looks like jarrah to me too - some kinda black-flecked jarrah.
    Not all jarrah is the same - I've had some very hard jarrah, and some much softer jarrah - it will depend on the particular variety of jarrah, as well as environmental factors where it was growing.

    Thanks everyone. I'll go with it being Jarrah. I have had quite a bit of jarrah, hard as a rock, and different in appearance, but with different species and some soft, that'll do me. Thanks again
