Is item 1 what you would describe as "objet d'art"

Wkipedia say's "objet d'art, is a french phrase that literally translates to "art object" and means something with perceived artistic value"

    What is it

I couldn't disagree more. This competition wasn't about the prizes, they're just nice to have because it motivates entries more so than nothing at the end.
What you say is true, but it does not follow. Are you saying that pride counts less than the prizes? That's the reason for people fading away.

Frank I know for me there was some great competition in the entries but for me it does make me want to improve more so that next time I get more points. So to speak but we all have to start somewhere and i know there been some from all ends of hte stick. Meaning from the very begginiing to perhaps even retired tradesman.

Each one to our own ability but all we can do is our best and I think this has been great.

I find I keep going back to look at them. I've decided the photography of #16 has probably cost it a lot of votes. When I look at the way the grain matches on the lid, and the turning involved (just beginning to appreciate the work involved here) I think this one is really pretty good. Whoever owns it I'd like to see some better pics posted when you can manage it - nice work!

    That's an excellent idea,
I wonder if Neil would be amenable to one of our members who write magazine articles to prepare and submit the threads as a mag article.

As I see it it there's no losers in that great suggestion

I would love to donate the Red Cedar on one condition. That 3 highest polled items get auctioned off with the money going to charity of the maker's choice. What does people think of that?
I think 26 people originally entered but obviously some couldn't make the deadline.

Due to the interest generated , I'm guesstimating there may be a 50% increase which possibly means about 40 entries in the next round.

Some withdrew beforehand, 21 sent the satchel and got their piece, 19 made something out of it, 1 photographed it in nice settings and 1 did not enter.

Given that the poll limit is now set at 30, which is a good practical number, that would probably need to be the limit of entries for future challenges, first come first served. That should ensure keen competition and less dropouts.

Good to know you enjoyed it and wish to continue improving, Toni. Next time I'll enter also, so it will be at least two of us beginners!

Make that four. Although I'm likely to turn in something that looks like a stone age carving.
