I am going to have my 2 cents take or leave with a grain of salt but I want it known to even those that got no votes they are worthy too in my opinion and this is my thoughts Please do not take offence
#1 Bit plain for the competition
#2 I love the smooth flow of this. Nice finish
#3 this was a close runner up to my vote. My daughter loves this.
#4 The box and the knife letter opener, I can't comment but the pen. I am wondering is that under turned near the centreband or is this an illusion of photo 3 and photo 4
#5 this got my vote it is beautiful done from what I know
#6 intriguing but the last photo kind of made think it was not finished yet
#7 beautifully done from what I can tell not knowing anything about carving
#8 I think this is beautiful
#9 nice
#10 very handy indeed. Great job.
#11 To do a inside out turning like that I respect the effort you have taken to get that far done
#12 We will leave that one alone
#13 I think you did a good job here. the effort to put the cross in. I like it
#14 great use of timber. I think the shape of your tool look comfortable
#15 I love your case that you made the pens are rather plain but I know that is the timber. I like the burnt line you did to try and enhance them.
#16 I love this. I really like the shape and the finish. The only thing I would liek to see more wider base for stand but htat is personal taste but remember I have not made one of those even though I love them. So ignore me if you like.
#17 I love this clock. I think it is beautiful straight line very effective
#18 beautiful the effort you have put into this is amazing
#19 I love the shape and the finish of your stabber.(sorry do not know what they do but makes a great stabber) looks great
#20 Great effort considering the effort you did and how long you been doing this
remember this is just my opinion please understand this is not being mean
bye Toni

Probably because a lot of us are descendent from Irish immigrants! or deportees
and I must take exception with your second comment ... this is not a good forum this is a bloomin brilliant forum
All your other comments seem valid to me so I won't take exception, except to say I generally agree
Actually your candid comments are what makes a little comp like this worthwhile. I personally applaud the impartial way you and L5C and Groggy gave everyone a comment or pat on the back, well done and thanks.

All I can say is that I did not turn my oliwood. I do not have any power tools (except a mouse sander and an electric toothbrush) and I did not leave my workshop with the bit o' wood. I might turn the next challenge though. (Some other people who have been paying attention know what I made.)
And whoever gave me my one vote (maybe you don't even know you have.) I love you. You have wonderful taste.anne-maria.

G'Day All
I think in fairness to #16 a better amended picture shows the effort put into it hope the maker doesn't mind
Cheers

Well, since Toni put in her two cents worth I might throw in mine for what its worth (does that make it 5c between us what with rounding up and all that?)
I am looking forward to after the poll to see some WIPs (also for everyone to guess who owns what
- Stylish and elegant, would make a good sushi server, with its Japanese feel about it. Very neat.
- If I saw this on display, I think I would pick it up, it looks like it would sit nicely in your hand, and I like the way the lid forms a stopper. I can just imagine how neatly it would pop in there.
- I went Ohhhhhh when I saw this, looks just like a box of chocolates, just in time for Mothers day too! Grain looks fantastic on here.
- This is very neatly done, love the thin strip of darker timber in the pen, on the corners etc. Would have liked to have seen thinner sides on the box and the extra timber used as an inset to the top instead of whatever else has been used, (or sorry if I am wrong) love the handle it really sets it off.
- Very cute, love the legs, and the way the grain is mirrored on each side. Top a little thick, and yes you can notice the glue lines. Must say it all looks like olive to me though.
- You certainly have some skill in removing material and leaving what is hidden inside! A great example of how wonderful olive is to work, what a wonderful tight even grain. Subject isnt to my liking although you have done a remarkable job.
- LOVE this... raw....earthy great skills...I keep coming back to look at it.
- I like the inlaid striping on the lid, helps bring out the colour of the olive grain, and always have liked that style of hinge. Has a handmade feel about it, not too sharp.
- This is interesting. It looks to me like it has been "blown outside the square". Perhaps a bit too much embellishment? Overrides your lathe skills a little, and what lovely grain you have exposed.
- Oh how wonderful, I bet you had a ball making these, cant wait to see your work in progress PLEASE. they must be tiny. A pic of the plane with a peel of wood going up behind it would have been nice
- Well this one is definitely different, leaving everyone guessing to what it is. Does it have to be anything but A small object of beauty? Hmmm a Chrissy decoration, verandah wind catcher, a lure? Smooth work. Must admit to not being overfussed on its adornment tho, but that is just personal taste.
- Laughed my head off. Great photography.
- This is a very masculine box, I could just see it with a pipe presented in it. Just needs a bit more time spent on fitting the hinges so the lid sits better. Has a good earthy feel about it. Couldnt mistake that for plastic!
- I like the way the diagonal dark line of grain mirrors the angle on the cutting edge, and you have brought up the ripple in the grain nicely. A bit more of a polish on the metal parts would be good. Working with small items and photographing them up close, shows you sooo much you normally wouldnt see.
- The raw edge of the wood left on the case looks great, and I like the two rings around the top of the pens. I am not overfussed with flocking tho I must admit. (Although not being a pen maker, what other options are there?) You will always have a fantastic momento of this competition, with the writing on the pens!
- Quite delicate looking turnings here, neat job. Obviously didnt waste any material between the base and the lid.
- Very simple and elegant, good choice of clock faces, unfussy.
- This is oh so cute I have seen something like this somewhere before on the forum? Love the little birds in the nest.
- A very simple item, the colour of the wood is awesome and looks like you have chosen good quality fittings for it.
- These are wonderful, I love their sensuous shape, and the raw earthy look of the wood.
