Timber for excecutive desk
Hi, im new here and am in year 12 and am doin the major work. i have chason to make an excecutive desk which will go in an office (like the desks that have the leather insert). i am trying to make this desk out of recycled timber but am unsure of what type would look good- i was thinking of a deep red timber with a lighter, white timber trip but am unsure on specifics. any help would be appreciated and if anybody knows of a good recycled timber yard in the Blue Mountains that would also be appreciated. look foreward to hearing from you soon.
thanks heaps
Tim

Hiya Tim and welcome to the forum - you have certainly picked a great project, even if it is a toughy. Please post some pics of the type of desk you're wanting to build. My first thoughts are that you could use Sydney Blue Gum or Australia Cedar, but these will cost ya. You 'may' get some joy from Delta Timber Recyclers whom I believe are in Alexandria but can't be sure. The project is very cool and I would just like to encourage you to take your time and if you can at all, put a secret drawer into it somewhere .... it will add even more funkiness to it!

Timmy,
There are a couple of timber recycleing yards in Lawson. I dont recall the names but they are in the industrial estate part. A look at the Mountains phone book would get results. There will be a lot of work dressing the timber and nails will be a big pain if using machinery. It would not hurt however to have a look at what they have got as the odd surprise find is sometimes made.
Good luck and keep posting as you go.
Regards
John

Even if you dont use recycled timber, document it in your portfolio, stating youhad considered it as an option but chose against it due (insert reasons here, positives and negatives, etc. ie. nails, condition of timber, etc)
Any questions about the portfolio/project just shoot me a PM
I did my year 12 major work last year (well 2 of them)
Goodluck
