Timber for lining cutlery drawers?
Want to make a mini chest of drawers for SHMBO's new cutlery set, with separate drawers for knives, forks etc and individual routed slots for each item. Have made a dummy of all the 'rests' in pine to get all the grooves in place and proportion and now want to purchase the timber for final product. The outside of the chest will be in Tassie Blackwood. Are there any recommendations as to the timber to use INSIDE the drawers - I want to avoid fabric lining or flocking the thing if possible so something that's going to work on its own. Someone suggested cedar, but I thought that would be too aromatic and may leaves a 'taste' on the cutlery? Would prefer a very blond timber to contrast the outside.

Thanks for the compliment.
Kauri is a blond timber, with a straight grain showing pastel pinks and greens. Very subtle. Its easy to work and is quite cheap. The Shaker Chest on my site (Peruvian Walnut) has drawer sides made from Kauri. Here's a pic for you.

Rob

Thanks fella's, am going to timber yard on the weekend and will check out both - and someone also suggested Huon Pine, a beautiful timber, and I may actually be able to use it on this project cause the amount I'll need can fit my budget - trying to use HP on a larger item was always a bit scary!

Huon is a beautiful timber, but quite aromatic too, like cedar.
