timber major work HSC help
Hi im a 17 yrs old industrial technology (timber) student in yr 11 and I am planning and researching for my major project now, cause it will take some time to make.
Do you guys think it would be a smart idea to make a foosball table cause I have already bought the bars and the players and so on. So it is a bit late to stop now.
I just want your opinion of what to do and how to do it.
Im am using a plan that I bought from furniture plans here is the link http://www.furnitureplans.com/pi_products/8000 and i have attached a picture of the foosball table too.
For the HSC am I allowed to copy the plan the whole way or do I have to change some things.
Help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forums! You'll find plenty of great advice and support here. Just keep posting questions and photos as you go.
So ... how much experience have you had working with timber? Is this your first project?
Cheers,
Af.

G'day t/a,
When I did my HSC major work many years ago the process involved actually designing your piece. Not sure how it works these days but a big part of the folio was devoted to the design process and why each choice/path had been taken to achieve the end result. Maybe the plans you have purchased can become the basis around which you design your own table.
Good luck!

gday mate
ive just finished my two yr 12 majors and its the hardest thing youll ever do in your life
work hard and youll get it done ... as long as your project shows a range of skills its all the markers look at you can beg borrow or steal the plans as long as you justify in your folio why you chose to use that particular plan then its all good
but itll be a good project
and for god sake get a digital camera and take photos like nothin else and a diarys good too but get a camera but good luck mate and work hard

It's a big job. My advice is to get off the net, sit down and work out (roughly) all your sizes and then go through each of the main pieces and think about exactly how you will do it: Step by Step. It's important. Think about how long it's taken you to do similar things in the past and try to guess a realistic time. When I do things like this I always add time for things not going right. Things never go 100% right the first time
Add up all those times and if you have the time to do it, do it. When I did my end of TAFE project I chose to make something that was a little too big for me, and I only got half of it done. I was lucky though because what I did end up finishing didn't look like it was unfinshed. (Unfortunately I had shown my teacher my original plans though so I lost marks) But screw it, it didn't matter
I am a firm believer in the fact that anyone can do anything if their heart's in it and they really want to see it done. You'll be sweet if you really want to do it.
DON'T just do it because you bought the stuff for it.

G'day turn/around and welcome to the club.
You should check with your teacher as to the requirements about plans, originality and so on.
It looks like a very good project to undertake and will test your skills. I would suggest you take good note of what Eldanos says.

Sounds like you are already committed to this project and it will be good to see your WIP on it. Good luck.
Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

Where do you buy the components from? Seems like a great thing to make.

It is only the hardest thing in your life if you dont work hard enough.
Just work hard, and enjoy it.
Take a lot of pics, keep a Diary (definite), document all the problems you have with evaluation, etc.
Not to be rude, but if your following plans shouldnt they tell you everything you need to know? Maybe ask your woodwork for teacher for some help also?
Have fun and post pics as you goBuy the best tools you can afford and you'll only cry once...
