Sorry I am a bit late guys, there is something called life that has been interfering with my woodworking, oops, my woodwork talking.
That's as well, we picked up a few more entrants:
Tea lady (la donna e` mobile, qual piuma al vento....)
mick 61
Spirit
As regards size: I am taking no notice of your requests here, too messy... I'll just sent you what you write on the satchel (or an attached piece of paper if not practical there).
As regard prizes: Robutacion has a point, already made by others: they are an unnecessary complication. However, they are also nice to get, and given that Weisyboy and Underfoot have volunteered I think they should be given this opportunity and be acknowledged. Thought for next time. Maybe a third and last one would be nice to wrap this up now, any volunteer?
Sorry DJ, hope I did not make you wait up for my PM, I'll send it ASAP.

Just picked up on this thread, if it is not too late count me in please. A piece 80mm x 60mm x 50mm for a box would be nice.

Not really a prize, more a bit of fun ....but how about a trophy ?
Attachment 68664
I have named it the golden olive...in honour of the Olivewood challenge.
I would be happy for it to be awarded to 1st place , last place or anywhere in between .
Edit: All it needs is someone who can engrave to add a little plate with the details
cheers

Looks good BD , send the dimensions for the plate and I'll cut some up, got some thin Brass plate here that I can cut and polish up. Not to bad at engraving either.
Cheers

Thanks for the bulk email and your help with the plaque, DJ, it seems that the idea of trophies is catching on.
We have now pledges for three trophies, one of which has intrinsic value, and an actual prize. Underfoot would also like to be the judge of the more "artistic" piece.
This complicates a bit the awarding process. I'll try to make a couple of suggestions to even things up, see if you like them.
The simplest thing, I thought, was that a poll would be set up, every forum member has a vote and at the end of the voting time the poll numbers automatically determine the ranking of the entrants. The prizes then would be awarded by decreasing value.
So let's say that we have plaques and an inscription on a mug as trophies and some prize to go with them.
I don't know whether the platypus sculpture has higher or lower value than the timber offered by Carl, and there is the issue of cost to the donor/benefit to the recipient, so here are two options. Both assume that DJ and I make the plaques needed.
1) after sorting out whether the sculpture or the timber should be first or second prize, there are four prizes:
- Olive and brass 1st place plaque and first prize
- Olive and brass 2nd place plaque and second prize
- Trophy with brass plaque
- Inscribed mug.
2) Underfoot withdraws his offer and sponsors the next challenge, of which he will be the judge. I pledge already to support that challenge. There are, therefore, three prizes:
- Olive and brass 1st place plaque and timber prize
- Trophy with brass plaque
- Inscribed mug.
If there is no violent objection to either of these solutions, and no better suggestion, my approach would be to pray Underfoot to confer with Carl if necessary and then advise whether we proceed with 1) or 2).
It's getting more and more interesting!
Edited to add another thought: if the issue of prizes becomes too difficult, there is always the option to decline both Carl and Underfoot offers and be happy with the plaques/trophies. If this appeals to everybody, let me know ASAP.

I reckon option number two. Save the extra stuff for next time.

woahh there boy!!!!
just got home from work and it seems that my life is being arranged for me without my permission,
thats my wifes job guys!
geeez! all I did was volunteer a small prize because I liked Franks idea and thought I'd support it.
I suggest you stick to the original idea, the more prizes the better,
distributed at the discretion of the mod, ( I woz kidding about judging adventurous piece)
and forget all this other nonsense, you're frightenening me
