Timber preservative for treating pine
I am constructing a set of timber stairs for use by my Grand son who is severely handycaped. Part of his rehabilitation program by his Physio and to improve his ability to walk unaided in the future is the requirement for a set of stairs so that he will learn to climb stairs. The stairs will be six treads high ( approx 800 high) and will enable him to climb up by him self to play on a trambaline which he currently uses.
I am constructing the treads and stringers from offcuts of untreated structural pine 230 x 35 from left over roofing timbers kindly donated by the carpenters working on the roof of a house being built next door.
As the timber will be exposed to the weather I would like to apply some type of wood preservative prior to painting the members. I was considering a good heavy coat of Boiled Linsead Oil prior to painting some time in the future with a suitable oil based paint and or decking oil.
I am interested in any suggestions on timber preservative treatment for pine, it would be noted that the timber would not be in contact with the ground and white ants would be not a problem.
Your help would be appreciated.
Cheers
