Thread: What is timber worth at the moment?

Perhaps you could start with MARKET PLACE - TIMBER SALES on this Forum, Len. No commercial outlet would be interested in such a small quantity.

Facebook has several pages where woodies can buy and sell timber ... here's one ... Woodworking Buy and Sell - South East Qld

2nd hand sales of timber are only worth what the other person is willing to pay. Which is usually a decimal place to the left than what you think it's worth.

Sad but true. FB Market Place is your best bet for easy quick sales.

Have a look at retail sites such as Carbatec & Trend Timbers to get an idea. If you dig about you can find price lists on many sites.

Complete Timber List - Trend Timbers or simply 'enquire' about similar sizes.

The best way to gauge any value is to watch the market places where they're peddled. At the moment wood is crazy expensive, or at least the sellers are trying to get crazy prices. I watch the market places and wouldn't be buying at all if I were your. We're in a wait and see period. In a couple years it will settle again and I'll look at buying.

On a side note, but is relevant to those that watch various markets closely... Wood and machines at the very beginning of the this covid panic were cheap. That lasted about 6 months and then the prices took off like a HIMAR headed for pootin... Be patient young grasshopper, we're in the opportunistic gouging part of the cycle, watch and learn...

I think that that is marketing hype for: "its a good time to sell before prices become more rational again."

I have about 3cubic meters of NSW Rosewood from 1x8 all the way up to 4x4, that was air dried for about 20 years. I don't care how much it's worth. I suspect I could get triple what I paid right now but I ain't selling a tooth pick of it. Best Aussie wood I've ever come across. It's Australia's equivalent to Honduras Mahogany in workability and look, without the alternating grain. At least I think so LOL
