Thread: Timber yards in Hobart

Closest timber suppliers are south of Hobart. Island Speciality Timber at Geeveston. Strahan is the place to go, a bit of a hike from Hobart though.

Just got back from a trip around tassie on the motorbike. We stopped off at the sawmill in Strahan and had a gander at the offerings of both the timber suppliers there. Black heart sassafras was my wifes favourite, im sure I would have been given permission to buy loads of it had we been able to! I regret not taking the landcruiser and a trailer; the timber there is so good and really fairly priced if you pick it up yourself. Having said that, freight to major cities is reasonable as well.

Call of this supplier and ask them for freight costs &c

theres also a saw mill that does huon pine, they might have the sassafras as well. Just google around a bit, I cant remember the actual name of it.

Been there, and would definitely recommend it as the place to go. Go there on the way back from the Tahune Air Walk

Also the mill in Queenstown. Just remember not to bargain that is a bit offensive in Tassy.
