Nice slick, I have a couple.
One is Japanese the other like yours.
Bought both at the tool sale and swap I used to hold here in Sydney.
Always lots of odd stuff if you know what it is.
I visited a First Nations totem pole carver on Vancouver Island and he had about half a dozen up on his tool board.
Whereabouts in Canada are you?
My wife is from Red Deer Ab and we were going over yearly when we first retired.

I am on Vancouver Island about 40 k's north of Victoria. A beautiful place to be confined.
Lots of good timber here too, pity it is so expensive at home.
We watched a neighbour get a 50 foot cedar and a 75 foot Douglas Fir cut down yesterday. They saved two decent logs. But they do not know what to do with them!!!!

The totem pole carver was a First Nations guy.
Charles Eliot is his name.
He did the sculpture outside the central police station in Victoria.
Its a bear protecting the people.
We were staying with a cousin of my wife’s in Sidney.
I’d teed up to spend a day with him and had brought over my Balinese carving tools but there was a death in the tribe so it didn’t happen.
Carve a pole from that Cedar.
Put a few Roos and Emus on it.

Nice Slick, you don't see many over here. I have 2, both 50mm blades, one a western version and one a japanese version.

Edit, not japanese, american. I was thinking of the 30mm Temple chisel, I got for my birthday this year.

I'll try to remember to take a pic of them, later on today.

Postage would be ridiculous to send them anywhere!

A few years ago I was in Queens visiting a mate from my days working in NYC. He gave me this scraper plane which has been sitting in the shed waiting for me to do it up.

It takes a blade about 73mm wide and it was missing when he handed it over. I've thought about cutting a thin scraper down but suspect it was designed for a much thicker one, like a plane blade. Goodness knows where I'll find one that wide.

Glad to be of help! I have a set of Veritas scrapers and the thickest one is around 1mm whereas the #12 uses 3/32" (~2.3mm) thick blades, so you're right, cutting a scraper down may not work, unless you have an especially thick one or some 2mm thick steel lying around.

Hey Guys,

Thought I would post some minor tool resurrection I have been doing of late.
I picked up a box hand planes for $60 the other week.
There was an:
English Stanley #5 1/2
US Stanley #5
English Stanley #4
English Whitworth #4
Aus Stanley #3

Most were in quite a rusty state as can be seen in a few of the attached images. I just wanted a quick and functional restore.
So I just used electrolysis to most of the hard work. All planes were in great condition under the surface rust.
Very happy with the pickup.
