toowoomba camphor
first G,day all .
just a question for the guys in toowoomba , i am there every wednesday .
short while ago ( and its not the first time ) they were cutting and removing the camphor trees near bernoths for the road works , i never had time so i rang the mrs and got her to cantact the toowoomba council re the chances of getting some of this timber and she was told by some one in the office that the timber is all put through the shredder so i did no more about it .
please some one tell me this aint true and it is possible to get some of this wood and put it to good use , just seems to me like a massive waste and a shame , thought we were meant to be recyling these days .
i turned camphor when i lived in brissy ( stafford )and my neighbors loved it when i did they would come out in the yard with their nose in the air and ask the mrs if i was turning again

did you see the size of the camphor trees they pulled out and put through the mincer to put the extra lane in .
is there a club in toowoomba that could approach the council on the waste of this timber or have they tried already

I know what you're saying, its a great shame.
I scored some from the Toowoomba council years back, it was stashed as logs in a depot on Anzac Ave. (now Bunnings site I think), and have a little bit left at work which I use for carving classes.
In saying that I reckon because of the trees' age and their position along a major road I reckon you'd be game to put them through a mill. Probably all sorts of rocks, nails and glass etc grown into them.

Was up in Toowoomba a few months back and saw them cutting down the MASSIVE camphor trees (I think it was Ruthven Street). I was so disappointed we flew up and didn't drive - I would have handed over a case for a few good logs.
I really hope they just got get turned into mulch - but I think I would be wrong.
