Thread: T traack or mitre track?

Have a look at Professional Woodpeckers website:

They have rectangular nuts which should do what you want. They are 1/4" not metric. They also have 1/4" knobs, but I do think the 57mm diameter ones are a bit large.

I cut pieces of 1/4" threaded rod and attach these to the rectangular nuts with Loctite to make the T-bolts.

Also I found what I wanted on the woopecker site and was about to order them, I am really annoyed at their shipping price.
For a rectangular bolt and knob for a total of $6, they are charging me $13 for shipping and the worse is that they are in victoria and I live in Melbourne
all together, the price would be exactly the same than ordering an already made featherboard

Unfortunately a business has to recover it's costs and make a profit. Whether you spend $6 or $600 the P & H costs would be similar.

Weld a 2mm thick 23.9mm dia washer on the end of some 3/8 threaded rod!

I alos ordered T-track and assorted knobs from woodpeckers and living in Melbourne and being on holidays - around Christmas time - I was able to organise myself and pick the stock up from Woodpeckers. It was a pleasant day and drive and SWMBO also got to go for a tour of SE Melb. and District.

Postage is always a pain in the bum no matter who you order from .... $13 sounds like the 500g+ postage price ..... did you drop an email to woodpecker before having a go at them here?

Sometimes it pays to think how much it would coust you in time, and petrol, to jump in your car and drive across town to pick up an item ..... most likely more than $13.00 which is what Australia Post are doing for you. Perhaps you could have emailed Woodpecker to arrange the pickup as it seems possible. Oh but as Woodpecker is a member here I am sure he can answer all of your questions.

If only we could get the same follow up service from the other suppliers we deal with. I have purchased a great deal of track and accessories from woodpeckers since I found them on this site. I am happy to pay the postage for quality service and follow up. Nothing but praise for Woodpeckers.

Altogether it was almost 250 kilos !

I did not drop them an email but I might do it.
I agree that driving there can cost money but when you think that amazon charges you $6US for a DVD which is probably the same weight than a nut and bolt and woodpecker $13 from Patterson Lakes to Doncaster, there is something wrong!
Someone is making $$ along the way!

Freight calculations are one of the biggest frustrations with our business, it's hard to get a balance of costs vs. charges so we end up just breaking even. Our Web shopping system links to Aussie Posts Delivery Rate Calulator DRC, which works perfectly on mid-range orders, but goes funny at small orders and where cubic weight cuts in vs. dead weight.

Eric, remind us of this hiccup with your next order and we will compensate.

I don't see why you would need any sort of track for your featherboard; I just used a 5/16" tee-nut, which engages nicely with the slot in my table saw; here are a couple of pics of my featherboard.

There must something wrong with the link to australia post because not long ago, I sent almost 13 kilos worth of good and the total cost was less than $15!

Australia Post might rip you off along the way

I did not place the order because I was not (and I am still not) prepared to pay $13 for shipping for a plastic knob and a square nut!
I have no doubt that the service is good but ending up paying double the price in shipping than the order itself it's something I can not afford.

So I'll have to find an alternative solution for the time being

Sorry, I forget Rocker's featherboard.
From what I can see, your featherboard does not lock in place.
The knob is only there to lock the featherboard in position against the wood but not the featherboard in the T or mitre track.
Am I right? If so, that's the reason I wanted a square nut or mitre track to lock it in place in the track so that it does not move

I should have added that we frequently intercept orders that are obviously 'over priced' freight wise and adjust the total before charging to your credit card. This way we try to ensure that we're not part of any rip-off.

I used Rocker's idea to adapt my featherboard. The 5/16 T- nut is just the right size to run in the bottom of the TSC-10HB mitre track ( which is wider than the rest of the mitre track ) so when the knob is tightened it clamps tight in the mitre channel. The wood is to guide the T - nut into the channel etc.

No need for expensive nuts.
