    Default Treated pine.

Just bought some pine from bunnings to cut on my cnc router, I just wanted to know how dangerous the dust is that comes off it?

It says on the label its harmful but if so then why would they use it when the intention is to cut the wood.

    What precautions should I take?

    Being a bit paranoid?

No Don't worry about it, it will only kill you, seriously it is dagerous a good quality respirator designed for filtering dangerous dust is what you need or one of the full face types, you should use one for all wood dust

Real treated pine is legally required to be marked on the end of the piece - you should find an ink stamped 'H2', 'H3' or 'H5' - H2 is termite resistant, H3 adds rot resistant and H5 is in ground termite & rot resistant or tropical exposed IIRC - you don't see H1 (why bother) or H4.

If its not stamped then its almost certainly not treated, but all wood dusts are now considered to be health hazards & can cause respiratory problems & possibly lung cancer - at least in lab rats Use a good dust sucker at the source, then you don't have to either worry or clean up

IMHO the risk of the compound used for termite treatment is less than the straight wood dust affecting your lungs.

Eating a handful of the treated timber has about the same amount of Copper and Arsenic as a big feed of Asian Prawns. I guess this says something about Asian Prawns!

Says "Wood Dust may be Hazardus"

Doesnt have a rating, but it is dressed pine.

This is the new stuff, the old stuff I had said it was treated for termites, so does this mean the new stuff that I bought is ordinary pine?

I made a chopping board out of treated pine for my mother in law's birthday. It seems to be OK.

I'd say that a treated pine chopping board is as harmful to your health as a red marking pen is harmful to a child's psyche.

On the other hand, breathing any wood dust is more like stabbing the child with the red pen...
