Check that the power button is not locked on.

That sounds obvious but I have fallen for it more than once!

Also check that the gear isn't clogged up with dust. After routing a lot of chipboard with it freehand, it wouldn't plunge at all. Take the plastic cap off the end (the one that holds the spring). CAREFUL!!! The spring WILL jump out!!! Have a steady hand on top of it, holding it tightly. There is then some other piece I had to take off to get to the plunge gears, from memory. Blow it out with compressed air and it was then good to go.

If you think that may be the cause, have a search for 'cleaning triton router'. There was a very good thread about it.

EDIT: Here is the link. (Ray is a member on here). http://www.raygirling.com/dismtra1.htm
I just followed this until I got down to the gear shaft and gave it a clean out.

One thing that can cause table mounted plunge routers to loose their plunge capability is dust getting into the chambers covering the plunge tubes via the tubes. If this builds up you get the powder equivalent of a hydroulic lock, i.e. the guts jamb up because you need to compress rather move an incompressible material. Generally far less of an issue when used upright, as the dust has to defy gravity to get in there, but in a table gravity is working to aid the dust entering.

Other issue with some Tritons was wear in some plastic gears in the height adjustment system, particularly if used inverted in a table if the plunge spring is installed. Triton upgraded to metal gears in the past couple of years and I understand that the newer metal parts can be retrofitted to the units that had plastic gears.

Based on the above, i suggest removing the unit from the table for a tear down, clean up, and possibly replacement of worn gears.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

This is exact same problem happened with mine less than a week ago. It actually happened when i first installed it into my only just finished router table (anticlimax). The router itself had only had about 5 minutes of use!

Spoke to Carbatec and it seemed to be a common problem so sent to them for repair/replace. Hopefully get her back home soon.

I phone kincrome who were very unhelpful and suggested I take it to Bunnings to have a look, as if.
They also suggested bunning to buy the gears if we need them.
will try the compressor and see if it helps.
    many thanks

    Default Little plastic gears

Ive pulled one down and noted with alarm that the winding mechanism was plastic. These would have the strength of wet pasta.

While its a bit of a job to disassemble and fit new metal gears, it's not too bad. I installed new bits into my second hand TRA001 as part of a total refurb. I filled the gears with Moly Grease (molebneium disulphide (sp?)) bought for $10 at the car shop. Works an absolute treat now.

Parts are available from a UK vendor. Arrived in 3 days.

So I take it that you are winding the little shaft through the table, but no sign of movement up & down. If that is the case then a build up of dust in or around the tubes is not your current problem (may have been part of the cause initially). Does it wind up using the handle on the side?
As I_wanna_shed suggested, removing the springs from the tubes is recommended if using the unit upside down to reduce the load on the gears.
How old or how much work has the router done?
