Default My First Try at Sprayed Lacquer

Did anyone else start out with canned sprayed lacquer, or did you jump straight into using a gun?

I use spray lacquer (automotive clear, to be exact) when I'm too lazy to get the compressor n' stuff out and it's a small job. For better atomisation I stand the can in warm water (50 degrees C or thereabouts) for a few minutes, and give it a few good shakes during this time.

Also...I keep old spray nozzles so I can swap out one that seems disfunctional without having to take a long break in the spraying.

Never heard of this - I can see the wisdom of it. Will definitely have to try it.

Good tips Splinter! It's going to start getting cold here in Colorado soon, and my spray area is still on the back patio, so warming the finish might be in order. I'll have to remember to start a little collection of the nozzles as I go through my first few cans.

Any other cold weather sprayers out there? What do you do in winter? I may have to set up a portable spray booth. I've got a small window that I could use with a fan, but it sits up high. I also have a couple windows on the back wall where the basement walks out to the back yard. It would just be a bit chilly with the windows open.
