TV entertainment unit - help please!
Hi all, new to the forums
I'm a complete novice to woodwork and carpentry, but I'm about to begin a project of building a TV entertainment unit. Luckily it's something my old man will be helping me with, and he has a solid carpentry background of over 40 years.
The basic design, with tweaks is along these lines:
Wholesale ZAGO TV UNIT WITH 2 DRAWERS :: Sydney Australia
I've done my sketches (in Google Sketchup.. great little program by the way!!), and have settled on either 50 or 60ml thick hardwood. The next stage is pricing the project, and here's where I'm stuck:
- what kind of wood would you recommend? I'm liking the look of the Teak in the above link, is it any good?
- where can I get hardwoods in Sydney? I'll happily try timber yards, but the impression I get is that most timber yards would rather sell me treated pine slats, because that's all they seem to stock these days! Am I looking in the wrong places?
Appreciate any advice.. thanks!

Hey mate,
Do you have a jointer/thicknesser or are you looking to buy the timber dressed and ready to go? If you are looking for dressed timber you can try Trend timbers in Mulgrave, Anagote timbers in Marrickville or Matthews timbers in St Mary's.
Good luck!
