    Default If it's ugly....hide it!

I have always loved things that are not what they appear to be. In our lounge room is the ugliest brown plastic aircon you've ever seen. It's only ever used for a few weeks in the summer and I'm too mean to buy a new one. The rest of the year it just sits there looking evil.
One day I decided to disguise it by fitting a front cover on it with velcro and this is what I came up with. It's all made from MDF offcuts and painted with acrylic paint. It didn't look very convincing as a bookshelf until I put the real books (and the fluffy toy) on the top. The electric cord gives it away a bit. Maybe I should paint that too. It can be removed if we want to actually use the aircon.

    Great idea pugwash well done
with your skills at Trompe L'oeil maybe you could paint a shelf of old collectible hand tools,... just to remind you of the shed

what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Thanks guys. I'm not sure if it is a true Trompe L'oeil as it does actually have a third dimension. The "books" are pieces of MDF between 10mm and 16mm thick, rounded over on a sander before painting and gluing onto a 3mm backing sheet.

The fun part is thinking up titles for the "books"

    "Landscape Gardening with your puppy"
"The fall from the cliff" by Eileen Dover.
"The Broken Window" by Eva Brick.

Its just a panel on the front of the aircon. It's only 20mm thick overall.

I like the way you've taken the initiative over the as you say "ugly" thing. Like the second pics title group: Let's Go Sailing with Silly Sisters, Dulcimer Music and Robert Burns Gardening

I had an aircon like that in my old house, it made the room look untidy. Good idea to cover it up and nice artwork.

With the electrical cord are you able to incorporate a light in the design.
