Unknown heirloom -- what is this attachment??
Hi,
I inherited these 2 items with a variety of power tools about 23 years ago, but have not been able to work out what it is. Can anyone help?

I reckon it is a holder for sharpening electric plane blades. It probably fits into some sort of jig that sets the angle for either grinding or honing.

The black bit is a bit like the blade setting guide for my old makita and the clamp thing is likely as Alan said. I have only ever used TCT blades and they are throw away.

Blade setting jig for portable power planer, not really a heirloom, just old tech since disposable double sided blades became the norm.

Yep, same as the ones that came with my old Towa. I've still got it and have never used disposable blades in the 44 years that I've had it.

thanks to all respondents
Hi All, Thanks for quick replies. Dad left me an old Makita power planer, and I figure from all the replies today that this fitting goes with it....now I need to research how it works!
Could you explain to me how to use it, supply some pictures, or point me to a manual or something?
Thanks

I'll see if it's still in the box. I haven't used it for years because I found it easier to set the blades up another way.

Clamp blade under the plate bevel down the angled section then rest on a oil stone to keep the angle accurate, were included with Makita electric planers in the seventies I have 3 or 4 hiding around the shed
as for the blade setter I would have to play with it again to be sure, I may have the instructions I will have a look, I resharpen my blades on a grinder these days

No luck sorry but I'm sure you'll find something on google. The bonus for me was finding 5 packets of blades for my dewalt jigsaw, so thanks.

It is a blade sharpener (alloy piece) and blade setter (black piece) for a Makita. I used to have one.
