The unusual turning of a chair leg.
This is one of two pictures taken in 1986 that I unearthed recently which I thought may be of interest to some of you woodturners and furniture makers alike.
The chair in the foreground is only of little consequence other than it's a nice mahogany library or Gainsborough chair. However, the item mounted in the lathe in the background of the picture is probably more worthy of note to the readers here.
The partially turned piece of oak was a replacement rear leg cum back support for an original seventeenth chair.
At the headstock end can clearly be seen an additional block glued to the main piece of oak. This is to accommodate the off-set centre to affect the required kink in the rear leg from the seat rail downwards. The bandsawn sweep of the lower portion of the rear leg can be plainly identified..
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.
