using solid burl in furniture
giday all ,want to build a table with burl inserts in it ,edge of table would be solid wood with a patchwork of differant burl pieces inlaid inside of wood edge. ive done a couple like this, the first had 25 mil thick pieces glued to mdf centre which self destructed due to movement ,second i did with a 3mill gap between each piece and filled with sika flex to allow movement which looked ok but sika flex wont sand flat, so was thinking of veneering say 4 mil pieces onto mdf or ply then cutting them into squares or whatever then gluing those onto the ply or mdf centre .would i need to venner both sides [dont want to as this uses up more burl ].would a hard setting glue be better or something that allows a bit of movement .anyone tried anything like this ?
