New ute, what should I put in it to take to Longreach?
Just bought a little hilux ute, noting to get excited about, a little 2x4 single cab 2003 number.
Now, I'll be leaving Brisbane for Longreach on Tuesday.
Where should I go to buy some good timber to take with me, and maybe some blanks.
Anything else I should put in the ute as well, shed related only thanks
I'll probably go to Carbatec before I leave, might get a small bandsaw and bench mounted drill press."There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark."

Jack, careful with the braking when it is loaded. Good utes, they just aren't keen on slowing down with a load, you need some space.
Mine is a 2002.

I took it for a test drive yesterday, seems to brake ok but you are right, I will take it easy the first time I load it up to see how it goes.

As many slabs as you can fit.
I prefer Jim Beam slabs, but I guess your favorite beer will do.
I imagine it is much dearer in Longreach than Brisbane.

Talk to some of the blokes in the Milling forum, they may have some timber for you.
What sort of stuff are you going to build out there?
What ever timber you take has to be able to stand up to very dry air or it will crack as soon as it gets there.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

I don't know what I will build.
I don't have a requirement for any furniture and don't really want any as I'll be moving again in a year.
I need to start getting a portfolio together so I can apply to the ASFF in a year or two.
I guess I am after the exotics so I can make a few nice looking small pieces.
A selection of different species would be great.
I have the machinery to mill timber if I get it rough cut but I only have a shipping container to work in so not much room.
I'm thinking of buying a BAS 350 bandsaw on Tuesday unless anyone has a better suggestion."There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark."

Yep, actually thanks for reminding me, I'll have to pick up a good sized industrial fan before I leave the big smoke!
