    Default Veneer Defect

The veneered ply is for the side of a cabinet. It biscuit joints onto wooden edge strips.

When I was attaching the edge strips I noticed the veneer had lifted at one point. Luckily I was just in time to take it apart and clean it up.

I guess the veneer hadn't stuck down properly by the knot. I can fix it easily enough by poking in some epoxy and clamping it flat but I'm wondering how to stop it happening again.

I think the veneer lifted when I wiped the squeeze out with a damp cloth, or it may have been the water in the Titebond III. Maybe I should check the edges of all the panels by wetting them before I start. I tried soaking the test panel with no ill effects. I used the Selleys 308 for the veneer so it is waterproof.

I wonder if you have any thoughts or suggestions?
    Cheers, Glen

Bit of a problem . If you can't see any more suspect bits then you can't do much except fix your present problem and press on.
Nice looking veneer - what is it.
    Cheers

That's right, but it is a beautiful golden color, looks stunning against the cherry frame. The pic shows the cabinet top resting on the stand.

I got the veneer from Peter Scott-Young. I'll give him a plug because he was so patient in helping me sort through the stacks until I found it.

I did four sides (two cabinets) all matched and the glue hasn't taken in the same place next to the knot on all four. My jury rigged veneer press obviously isn't up to such cranky veneer.
    Cheers, Glen

Moistening the cranky veneer with glucose and water will make it less brittle and easier to press.

Your cabinet is going to look spectacular when finished and the colour of the cherry brought to life
