Veneering Chair backs
Hi all
I've a set of mid-century teak chairs with 2 part vinyl upholstery. The backs are looking a bit tired and I'm thinking about veneering them rather than re-upholstering. The shape of the plywood underneath the upholstery on the back section is slightly curved and approx. 20x45cm. Similar to the chairs in the photo below.
I'm pretty handy but have no woodworking experience. How would I go about veneering such curved sections (presumably back and front) and is this something I should be attempting?

No reason why you cant, it will take some skill/learning to do.
Search through this web site, there quite a few Q&A's on veneering.....................................................................

I think you would be able to veneer the two big faces (back and front) of the back rest, but the edges would be a bit more difficult - for me at least. Have you thought of using a carefully removed vinyl covering to use as a pattern for new upholstery - getting the pattern is often the most difficult part of an upholstery job.
