Default Wardrobe fit out - dimesions for shelves etc

    HI,

The existing wardrobe that was installed by one of those many companies some years ago has never really worked in terms of the shelf, hanging heights and design.

So I would like to remake the internals and improve the layout and functionality of the wardrobe.

Does anypone kow of a web site that has the satndard measurements of things like the hanging bar height from the ground for double hanging etc.?

Our clothes seem to bunch up on top of each other in the current double hanging as an example of a poor fit out.

    Cheers

If you are going to refit it out yourself, why don't you custom design it so it fits and hangs your clothes without any problems like you describe. I am not sure if there is any standard sizes that are mandatory for the fitting out of wardrobes. I would make the whole thing to suit my own needs. Some wardrobes are so badly fitted out I wonder sometimes who actually designed it and if they have ever tried to hang clothes in it.
    Reality is no background music.

Perhaps you could experiment with different sized and composition rods, distances, spacings etc to suit your requirements. This doesn't need to be a time consuming process.

    Default Wardrobe fitout

The first thing is to consider the width of a standard coat hanger as this will dictate the internal width of the wardrobe, allow clearance for the door to shut. The next item is to check the height of your wife's dresses allowing for the coat hanger and clearance for the odds and sods the wife places on the bottom, ie shoes etc, this will set the height of the rail. Considering all this and now you are well on your way to designing a functioning wardrobe.

Just wondering how you got on with the fit out of the wardrobe.
I'm currently building one myself and looking for ideas, do you have any pic's?

Sorry Mate, It is one of the long list of jobs arond the house to do and I usually get background - file it and then eventually get on to it. This wardrobe one is still away off. Keep me informed of yours if I have not got ahead of you.

    Cheers
