Default water damaged Floorboards - repairs no good help

Sept 2011 our 3 year old Tasmanian Oak floors were flooded (due to mesh hoses under sink exploding). Half of the house was flooded and we claimed on insurance, they pulled up 1/4 of the floor and replaced the floor boards that were effected by water, including skirting boards. They had to sand the floors twice as the first sanding person left too many gaps in the floor boards and it was not a good finish, the second person filled the gaps and finished. The new floor boards are now 6 months old and are starting to crack and bounce when you step on them and you get your foot pinched in the gaps. The floors are spongey in some areas and the wood is very soft, when we move furniture it marks the floors now. I am just after some advice as they are coming to inspect the floors next week and want to have some different opinions on how they can fix the floors. (they have asked me what I want them to do) sorry I have no idea

Hi josie and welcome to the forum.

Your question would probably be better off being asked on our sister forum Renovate Forum, where there would be a lot of knowledgeable people in this area of expertise.

Ask for a reputable flooring company to carry out the work, not some general Mr Fixit who has no idea what is required to lay a good floor.

First though I would call in at least 3, flooring companies and get independent assessments , on the floor, then look at your options.

I would lodge a complaint with your insurance , it sounds like the floor was not properly clamped and nailed down for starters, and the coat/timber is soft.
