    Default waterstone id

got given this waterstone years ago, never even took the lid off the box until today and got a bit of a surprise ,but i have no idea on its origin,i would guess it is japenese going by the plum blossums on the front, this side is curved and the back is flat, it is 180x120 so pretty big for a stone, any ideas??....bob

I am not 100% sure. I think it is for grinding ink for Japanese caligraphy.

I agree with China. Looks like an ink stone for Sumi-e ("ink picture", Japanese).
180 x 120 is gigantic, both of mine are 75 x 50mm. I've seen some 25mm ink sticks, for large murals, maybe?

Yeah, what they said (but Chinese idea in origin, I don't know where that particular stone is from)
