waterstone id
got given this waterstone years ago,never even took the lid off the box until today and got a bit of a surprise ,but i have no idea on its origin,i would guess it is japenese going by the plum blossums on the front,this side is curved and the back is flat, it is 180x120 so pretty big for a stone,any ideas??....bob

I am not 100% sure. I think it is for grinding ink for Japanese caligraphy.

I agree with China. Looks like an ink stone for Sumi-e ("ink picture", Japanese).
180 x 120 is gigantic, both of mine are 75 x 50mm. I've seen some 25mm ink sticks, for large murals, maybe?

thanks for that info guys i have done some googling and i totally agree,looks like i didnt get a great japanese sharpening stone after all,i,m disappointed,oh well , off to that big ebay it goes thanks again..........bob
