Weeping window frame.
The windows in our house were replaced some thirty years ago,or so I've been informed. They are in pretty good condition for their age. they just for the main part need a good sand and a coat or two of varnish. The two windows upstairs facing north have a fair amount of sap coming out of the wood. I looked at them last summer but it was a gooey mess due to the heat so i thought I'd better have a go at them now while it's still cool. I scraped the excess off and tried to sand the seemingly dry sap off but it just clogs the sandpaper straight away.
Can anyone advise me how I can get this sap off. Any help will greatly be appreciated.
Kev.

Scrap back the sap, then clean down with acetone to get rid of any surface contamination, I would then give the timber 2 coats of thinned varnish .
this may do the job, if there is no more bleed out in the next week , coat with 2 coats of straight varnish.

Thanks Jeff. I've got a cupboard full of acetone, thinners etc. but I'm never sure which to use for what. Better on the safe side and ask.
