Default weisyboy's Pallet Challenge - Conditions of Entry

weisyboy's Pallet Challenge - Conditions of Entry

The overall aim of this challenge is for entrants to take a regular shipping pallet, similar to the ones used by Chep, and turn it into a beautiful piece of furniture or other any other item.

    Rules and Conditions of Entry:

Start Date: Friday, 12 September 2008

Photo Submission Date: Saturday, 18 October 2008

Material: Entrants to obtain one shipping pallet preferably no bigger than a standard sized chep pallet (approximately 1200mm x 1200mm). It can be made from any timber or by-product thereof be it a solid hardwood pallet, a pine throw away pallet or pressed woodchip formed pallet. it can be eaten out by white ants and barely holding together have planks missing and been sitting down the back for the last 20 years or it can be a brand newie you managed to score from the local hardware. No other timber can be added except that from the pallet however you may add a small quantity (no more that 20%) of other materials whether it be steel or plastic or anything in-between this includes hardware (hinges, knobs and handles), screws and nails are not included.

Construction: you may use any construction method you wish to create any item you can dream up. Use all or the smallest amount of the pallet. It doesn’t matter if you want to turn a thimble or construct a dining table, it's up to you.

Entry: any forum member from Australia or overseas may enter the challenge providing they can access a standard shipping pallet. You can enter the challenge at any time during the process but all entries must be in by the due date and you must have posted "I’m in" or something similar, in the Pallet Challenge thread.

Finish Date: All entries must be submitted to our Head Moderator, RufflyRustic, (Wendy) by the 18 October 2008. Please still submit a picture or two even if your pallet project is not finished, we don’t even care if it’s just a pic of a pallet.

Submission: item submission will be via 5 photos one of which must be the starting material i.e. pallet. All pictures must be sent via email to our resident moderator RufflyRustic on or before the due date of 18 October 2008. (or send me the link to your website where you've published the photos)
The email address will be sent to Entrants closer to the submission date.
Photos sent must meet the same criteria as the Forum Picture standards. This will make it much easier for the Photo Thread to be setup.

Judging: will be via one anonymous poll on the forums, nice and easy that way. The poll will open from the time the Pictures thread is posted until midday, Saturday, 25 October 2008, unless otherwise posted. (the only poll thing may change but we will advise on any changes later on).

In the event of a draw the final decision will be made by the Forum Administrators ubeaut & , both of whom have judged at national level before.

If it comes to this, the Judges decision will be final.

Note: If you blog your entry, you will be disqualified.

Questions: Please post any questions in this thread. Carl, BobL and I will be keeping an eye here to assist.

    Prizes:
First - Awaiting reply from donator.

What about dowels for joints? Do they have to be made out of the pallet too?

I've got way too much to do now, but I'll just feel frustrated if I don't take part.

Welcome Banjow - what a way to join the Forum

    Good Stuff Funky.

TeaLady - dowels would be either liek the screws or in the 20%. I don't see a problem. What do you say Carl and BobL?

    cheers
