    Default What is this???

    G'day All

Anyone know what this is?. besides being broken it says "The L.S. STARRETT CO. ATHOL MASS. U.S.A.

The graduations on the outer ring are strange 0/0 > 100 in increments of 10 and underneath the increments are reversed eg: 100 > 0/0.
I found it in my fathers tool box and it would have to be @ least 50 years old.
I have no idea what it's for except that what ever stuck out the front edge was plastic and now is broken off.
    Cheers

I have no idea what it is,but Starrett has been making precision measuring equiptment for a long time.
Being 50+ years old,I doubt that the broken part is plastic, maybe a piece of bone or ivory for hardness and stability.
If you don't get any help here, you might try contacting them.

    Hi
Don' panic, it's a rev counter, used to have a rubber covered spindle on the other end that was held on the rotating , whatever and recorded the highest revolutions the motor or whatever was doing at the time.

Thanks Dredgemaster, that would fit with other rev counters I found in his toolbox. I searched starrett's web site before I posted the question and didn't find anything like it.
    The mystery is solved!!
