The brain, if there's a prob, it can be solved, it guides the hands, it can be your worst enemy if not kept in check, for without the brain, there wood be no tools.........now if only I had one!!

    Default Best Tool.

    Hi All,
I think rwbuild is about right.
    Then comes " My Tough V/S. Lathe " yes & " My 14 in. Bandsaw ".
I would certainly be lost without them, & then you have everything to go with them.

No ? Have to stay with " The Tough ".
    Regards,
    issatree.

    Two tools, really.
My 10" Delta power miter saw: I could not make square cuts ever before.
My benchtop 8" drill press: I could not drill perpendicular holes ever before.
I vote for BobL: He's created a big, portable machine tool that gives him a real advantage
    over woodworkers like me.

My table saw. For a very long time I wanted one but could not justify the expense while the kids were growing up. So I got by ok with a Triton. (They are a great idea). But my table saw is sooo much better. A close second are my hand saws and chisels which get a lot more use than the the table saw, since my preference is to use hand tools over powered whenever possible.
My age is still less than my number of posts

So many choices, some nice planes and my digital verniers are right up there but my great grandads mallet that I use all the time always puts a smile on my face when I pull it out of the cupboard.

I'll go first, it would have to be my thicknesser. I love the way it transforms that grey looking firewood into a lovely flat deep red plank of Jarrah. I could feed wood into it all day and watch the transformation
I don’t have a lot of tools in my shop. But the best tool I can be with is my band saw. Woodworking is almost impossible to do without my band saw. It is the very first tool that I check when I enter my shop.

Mine has to be my Grandfather's 1939 wood lathe. While so many people are trying to make their wood square I enjoy making it round
