    Cool Got the wheels on!!

Well on three of the five machines anyways!

Did the big bandsaw first... mmmm remember that measure twice cut once thing? yeah forgot the bolt heads were on the INSIDE of the framework didnt I? dummy just measured and marked cut and welded then started putting the wheels on and the damned lightbulb clicked DUHHHHH!!! so I thought this IS NOT going to be an issue and just went ahead and finished it... so got the engine crane out and hoisted the bandsaw... down onto the ready mobile frame... mmmm doesnt seem to want to sit level inside the frame... ooooooh right need to do something about that

So hoisted the bandsaw again and out with the grinder... a couple of quick cuts and theres a nice 1/2in gap where the bolt fits... so down she goes and whallah PERFECKSHUN!!

So Im on a roll now... and into it I go... get the jointer measured up cut the metal weld the metal put the wheels on get the crane again hoist and drop and YEAH BABY!!! PERFECT first time gawd I was hot I can tell you

So I lined up the big bitche (for those who arent aware of the big bitche shes my 15in thicknesser who is a big bitche and has been no end of issues since I bought her) so I measured her up I measured her up again then I cut and welded I fitted the wheels I fitted and welded the mobile wheel to the framework... grabbed the crane and wrapped the chain around the beds... DAMN!!! WRONG!!! beds slid upwards didnt they so I unwrapped the chains took the beds of racked my brain tryin to remember where Id put the damned lifting rods that came with the thing... ah there they are... bunged them in and wrapped the chain again and hoisted her into the air

note here... I AM DAMNED GLAD I GOT THE CRANE!! Worth its cost in gold this thing

And set her down on her new mobile base... and as I fully expected... she was not impressed and promptly decided she was going to object most strenuously to being moved anywhere... so in the morning shes getting some extra metal welded onto the mobile wheel and the step on bracket as these just are not meant to work well with something of this things weight

Okay... so hows it work so far...

The 18in bandsaw? Happy as larry no issues no problems wheels around like a dream machine born to it! other than my not taking those bolts into consideration that is but once rectified no worries whatever!

The 8in Jointer?... reletively happy... I think it is just a tad heavy for this setup and will need some reinforcing on the mobile wheel and step down lever... but otherwise brilliant no problels at all.

The 15in Thicknesser?... happy... just... the mobile wheel is the issue here as its a rather heavy machine the thing needs reinforcing to enable it to handle the weight.

    What I did...

Bought some 1 1/2in square steel tube (same size as the timber that its designed to use) did a rough fit with the angles and from that got the measurements of the lengths needed... cut the lengths to size for each machine... I did all three machines peices on the one day... day two was to remeasure and weld the steel tube to the angles drill the holes for the leveling feet and then put the wheels on... I welded the front inside edge of the mobile wheel to the frame and while this is enough for the bandsaw its not for the other two heavier machines

    To do.
I will be welding the front to the front of the mobile wheel to the frame so its totally welded to the base this will get rid of the flexing thats apparent now.

Weld some 1/2in steel angle or plate (unsure which yet) to the lever to stop the slipping of off the wheel base thats occuring Im pretty sure due to the weight issue... I believe if I weld a length of angle to the underside of the step lever from one side of the step to the other this then will allow the lever to remain on the base section enabling the wheel to lift the weight.

I have two more mobile bases... one will be for the 10HB table saw the other for the to be built router table... I am still considering the option someone else is doing (sorry mate I cant remember who it was) and making the table saw base go the entire length under the fence and thus make some cupboards under the fence and then the whole thing becomes mobile.

So far the cost has been about $50 each.

I will post some pics tomorrow.

oops methinks me should have whacked this in the metal work forum eh?... sigh ah well story of me life at the moment makin mistooks that is

    okay more?

1 and 2) Bandsaw now MOVES!!! YEESSSSSSSSSS!!!
    3 - 5) the troublesome mobile wheel

I welded the wheel by the front hook to the metal of the base and now realize I should have also welded the back hook to the metal of the base as well thats where a lot of the flex Im getting is coming from... theres also far too much slop between the side of the black lever part and the end of the post that goes through it (with the washer thing) not sure how Im gonna fix it

Idea presently is to weld a length of say 1in x 1in angle to the curved part of the stepon lever... this then would mean the slop would would be negated... presently as soon as you put weight on the lever one side moves across and falls down the edge of the shiney bit which means the lifting mechanism doesnt engage... so if I whack a peice of angle on the curved peice that will mean some metal will lower down across the shiney bit and therefore the lift will engage.

    Any other ideas are welcome!

    okay a couple more

1 - 3 is the levering action as you can see the side slips over the side of the shiney bit and thus doesnt engage the lift... the bandsaw does not happen just the thicknesser and jointer... but I will make any adjustments to it as well as the other two

Its got a fair amount to do with the slop on the bar that goes through the lever part... but other than taking that out and working someway around it the only other idea I can come up with is to weld a peice to the curved bit so regardless if it tries to slip over the edge the lever will engage... presently as can be seen there are just the two curved peices either side of the shiney bit so depending on which side of the slop of the bar peice depends on which side it drops and disengages on.

the 4th one is the thicknesser... as usual my most troublesome thing in the shed

and this new ubeaut camera the missus picked me up in Singypoor is a bloody ripper!!

A new camera (what is it by the way) or are you going to post a boast in photography.

Now with all that machinery on wheels you'll be free wheelinround the workshop you n the boys having races doing laps of the shed.

    Ding, looking good.

I approached it slightly different, I put the wheels on the short side, see picture 1. I feel the bandsaw would be easier to control that way when moving it.
I have had no issues with the wheel though, yes there is some slop, but it doesn't affect the way it works IMHO, maybe yours is different?

I have also attached a picture of my tablesaw base, still have to make the cupboards though.

Ding, just went out in the shed and had a look at my Carbatec thicknesser, that came with the mobile wheels already fitted. It uses the same type of arrangement, but where the lever hits the shiny part, they have reinforced it with round metal disks.

    I have attached some pictures.

Got them from Carabex Cliff about $49 each I think they were... yep the MB-6 model they didnt as usual have the ones I wanted when I was in there (MB-500 @ $89) seems most what I want they dont have when I go there... ah well might have to start ordering via internet or phone several WEEKS in advance to make sure they have what Im after eh ;:

The set is exactly as shown by big shed... cept you gotta make the lengths between the angles

    Wheelin mate... sigh
    1) the cart... was needed NOW not later but NOW so I bought one easy simple and solid as... damned sight cheeper than I could have got the metal for and its a finished job lot so no need for me to do buggar all but screw the bolts together... works a treat

    2) the welding helmet works a treat... once I work out if the damned thing is on or not... that first flash is a bitche if its not... a mad crazed reach inside the thing push the tiny button then go again... whew

    3) New camera? its a small fuji A820 has everything I need and probably a bit more... not an slr digital but well she was in charge of her spending over there I could only "suggest" and "recommend" in the end it was her choice... and its got "anti shaking" so IM STOKED!!!

Laps of the shed? yeah hahahahaha rightio can we wait till the house has been shifted up there for races? be much more room then

Big Shed... good one mate!! cheers that would be a better way... although looking at it yours it appears to have less slop for some reason... anyway cheers thats what I will do today... if its not firm enough or wide enough to get that shiney bit then stuff it I'll whack a peice of angle through there... all it needs is something to hit the damned thing when the lever is pushed down

I havent as yet done the table saw mate Im still considering how best to do it... I do like the thought of a cupboard under those long arms of the Incra... just not sure is all... HEY!!! how the bloody blue blazes would one get to the motor if you built it off that side? right hand side ala long side... like yours... my 10HB has the dust outlet and motor opening on that side... mmm so the cupboard would have to be made some feet out from the table itself to give access room? or make a door to access it? what about the dust collection joining? mmmm gotta plan this buggar eh!

    Cheers

Ta. I have a Mig welder on my wish list & I'll make frames that I can use the pallet jack on for most of my stuff but there may be somethings that are too wide &/too low for the jack forks to go around or under.

Yep... damned fine wee machine if I do say so meownself Cliff good investment methinks

Although I did have my first "run in" with the dreaded wire sticking issue this morning... had to take the gun part almost apart to sort it... seems to get a fair amount of shyte down the throat of the thing... irritating

    Anyways!!! Onwards and upwards

Strategy was to find something to weld between the two sides of the lever... so

    1) first dig out miggie

    2) next the offending three levers are placed on the mobile welding workbench

    3) next out with the mobile welding workbench vice and a few bits and peices

    4) now this is what I finally decided to go with... a length of 1in gal pipe with nice wide walls cut to length and welded in place
