    Default Wild Fires

Saw a bit on the news tonight showing some pretty bad wildfires (in Queensland, I believe). Wondered how folks are faring.

And of you fellers' affected by this? Hope you get a good rain and settle things down real quick!

It's gunna be a bad year all over here. The cold weather is only here for a few days and it will dry out again.

    They are called bushfires here.

There's at least two major multi-brigade wildfires on the tablelands near here today. One of them is large enough that there's two incident control centres being run. I know there's been some loss of property at one of the fires. Our district is still prety green as we've had intermittent rain throughout the year but it's dryinbg out and a lot of the surrounding areas are like tinder. May be helping with the fires if they're not sorted by Sunday.

Trouble a-brewin' in the Blue Mountains.

A fire that started a week ago from a suspected lightning strike is now firmly settled in the most un-accessible valley in the Mountains - the Grose Valley. Unfortunately there are many properties that back on to the valley, and should it all go pear shaped, we will be in for an 'interesting' time.

20kms of containment lines burnt last night ( ), but still a big fear that with tomorrows weather that the fire will just jump over them.

This is a similar situation to some of the biggest fires in the Blue Mountains recent history, including 1968 and 1994. Not looking good.

My house is about 2kms from where the fire traditionally bursts out of the Valley........think I might head home soon.
