    Default Wine Barrel Furniture

    G'day all,

This is a pretty general question and all comments and suggestions will be welcomed and appreciated.

What I would love to start doing is turning wine barrels into furniture. For example, chairs, tables, dog beds, planters, wheel barrows and a heap of other modifications. I have seen some sensational examples and decided I would love to give it a go as a hobby. I have a couple if wineries lined up with barrels for me. What I would like from here is tips, advice and any pointers on how best to modify the barrels, tools to use, methods to go by, etc. Also, tools and methods not to use for whatever reasons. I'm sure there are plenty of people here who have had a go at this and through trial and error found out a lot of useful info.

    Thanks very much.

So If you make a chair from a whole wine barrel how would you cut into the barell neatley, It would be a right pain to amke a guide for your circular saw, you'd have to do everything by eye would you?

Well basically, thats why I'm here to gather ideas. But chairs can be made a number of different ways, one way being using a dismantled barrel and using the staves with supports that resemble the barrel rings. Another being cutting the top off, supporting the staves with screws so they dont come undone and cutting the front of the barrel, rough explanations, but i have the pictures to show me. As for doing it by eye, it can be done by marking it with chalk and using a jigsaw, a little time consuming but a good result.

Very interesting idea. I would love to see some of your work when finished. Good luck with it.
