I am becoming more distressed by the day with this whole distressing of timber business.
Reading a FWW in bed 2 nights ago, my wife turns to me and tells me how good/beautiful some distressed furniture looked that she saw in a shop the day before. The look of horror on my face was clearly visible she told me.
See what you started Al??? eh!

I had the lady and here hubby for a viewing today, both are more than happy with the table.
I may have 2 more tables to build from it also, 1 coffee table for the same people, and 1 dining table from the ladies friend.

Al,
Can you use other timber since you are going to stain it and make it rustic anyway? It makes no difference to the look but at least you can save your beautiful blackwood for other project.Visit my website at www.myFineWoodWork.com

table looks nice but you surley could have used some recycled hardwood? Tassie BW should be stained EVER. If she wanted second hand thats what I would have done it with.
Just seems a bit of a waste of a resource.

Al,
you have constructed a wonderful table - your photo's have inspired me to try something similar with jarrah about 2.4m x 1.2m in size. Can you please explain how you got the the high quality finish on the table top - did you use any special tools....?

The top was sanded to 480 grit, then as Cliff has said I took it out side and destroyed the top by rubbing it upside down on some gravel , its what the lady wanted.
I then picked out the embedded gravel and sanded it with 480 grit again.
Then stained , shellaced a coupla or three coats with a 100mm brush (no expense spared around here ).
Finally it was rubbed down with Traditional Wax using steel wool.
Easy...........bodgy, but easy..
