Ta Bob. Quite like taking photos as you've probably noticed. Usually take them during a cuppa, or a breather. Like trying to get interesting angles.

Family man too you see. So, I have to be in the house at a certain time, and I find myself drifting towards the computer...like now for instance, while the kids are watching some cartoon. But can't really go back to the shed at least until the kids are in bed, so may as well put photos up.

Here's this arvos pictures.....Glued the whole thing together this morning. Put the astragal beading in. Wrapped around the legs at mitres.

Decided to change the crown. Didn't like my first attempt. Wasn't proud enough. So, I did it again bigger this time, and sloped off the back to merge with the top. Much better. Tryied out a 3mm slot cutter with my domino for crowns mitre and a little floating tenon. Not that it was necessary. Just made glue up easier and stronger. pic 1, 2, and 3

pic 4 .Can kinda see the astragal wrapping around the base. Haven't finished tidying that up yet. Little tags on the mitres etc need smoothing up. Do that tonight and put a finish on it.

I've got a little bench setup going where I pinch the ends of the stock with pins etc so that nothings fouls the plane. End up with little prick marks in the end grain, but generally thats all covered or cut off.

Sometimes with the really tricky ones, I just nail them to the bench. Honestly. I've got a nail gun now too. A couple of nails, one each end into places that'll be cut out latter. They can be made to go flush clear of the plane.

Finished your display cabinet yet Alex ? I'll have to have a look. Might have beat you

For some reason, I prefer the look of pieces without finish on them. They just look friendlier. As soon as I put a finish on them they look sterile for some reason.

Put the finish on the shelves. Happy with its construction. But not with its look..but it is what it is. Wonder how long it'll last in the pub.

    ...THE END....

How true. Your work reminds me of the type of construction of Krenov (not the style) and burnishing the timber and a simple wax would be all thats needed to enhance the simple beauty of the construction. Well done Tripper

Of course you finished first - I work on mine full time. Hopefully, glue-up this weekend.

Excellent result - your attention to detail shows.

You know Jake, when I look at your WIP on such a simple project I have to say I am inspired, and I plan to keep your WIP as a stark reminder to take more time, and pay more attention to detail in my future projects, after all, thats what its all about ....craftmanship.....and you certainly demonstrate yours, well done mate and thankyou, its a pleasure to watch you work.

pleasure... taking all these photos sets up a little visual record for myself too. Can look back I suppose to re-vise something I've forgotten.

I think your right about getting the details good. Its all a big tricky balance though. Time/money/pride etc. My father in law is a painter. He spends days and days on a single painting....and it shows. But his hourly rate is very low. So, he says you must never calculate it. Better to live with a low salary than to live with substandard work that your names attached too.

Which I try to live to. But its not always practical is it. Unfortunatly theirs a point where I have to say 'thats good enough' Gota pay the bills. Forced to find a balance. Quite depressing really. I don't know.

My boss is very good at it though. Good business men seem to be.

What I try to do is be time efficient whereever possible. uno, work very fast with processes that don't require a slow hand, then force myself to slow down to be steady at times. Try to group like actions whereever possible, even if their unrelated components. visualising non-stop. looking ahead, but not too far ahead on some tools to avoid accidents. Like chopping my finger tip off on the bloody jointer that day .wally.

    Nice work AP.

Don't discount the 'pink' $dollar, plenty of good disposable income there. I have an Arborist mate that advertises in gay newspapers. He swears by it.
