I don't expect it will, but that is what it looks like. I, for one, am always turned off pieces whose legs "tuck under". Just my opinion.

Do you think this might have an adverse effect on potential sales.
A fair question artme, no I don't thing there is a problem, when I sit on it, it's rock solid. Don't forget it still has to have the rockers put on and it sits back at a 14 degree angle. In addition, I have not finished shaping them yet.

    Awesome Chair

Only consideration I might have is the orientation of the cradle. For me, I would be more comfortable rocking forward to backward instead of side to side. Rocking side to side would make me dizzy. It would be interesting to see how you could rotate the crib 90 degrees. Would make it a little more compact. Kind of like the motorcycle and side car of rocking chairs.

Spongebrain, since when have you seen any baby cradle of a rocking type go in the opposite direction, I can think of none.

Well it's been a few weeks and I've been lazy over the xmas and new year but I started on finishing the rockers today and enclose some pics of a dry fit up. I have the silp seat frame almost finished and will start to do the finer finishing and final shaping over the next few weeks. Enjoy

As some of you like the meat in the sandwich, here are a couple of pics of the rockers I just finished shaping and waxing. Now if only I could get the rest finished between jobs.

Spongebrain, I may have been too hard on you, I've been thinking you might just have a good idea, sort of like a motobike side car type of thing. Hell, it might even work.

    Default update

Well it's been some time since I posted on this one but to tell the truth I just lost faith there for 3 months. Now I'm back and working on the rocker again and hope to get your interest back. Today I have finished the head board after sanding to 600, then eee, then shellawax cream and finally finished with traditional wax 2 coats. Enjoy.

On Spongebrains idea of a 'sideways' rocker, it is a bad idea. It is a horrid sensation to have your head lower than your body when laying down. That is why on all ships the bunks run in the same direction as the ship. Speaking as an ex-sailor here.

Love the rocker though. I am about to start making Rockers rocker and like the inspiration and ideas that you are giving me.

If you google baby rocker, they pretty much all rock front to back, but the baby is also in a position where they're heads are higher than their feet, or sitting in a semi-upright position.

Intuitively, rocking side to side, especially if laying flat on a level platform, seams problematic. First of all, you can roll back and forth easily. As you begin to rock forward, the baby tend to want to roll back. To counter this, you would have to barely rock, or you would have to have a very ergonomic baby bed which locks them in place so they don't roll around as you rock.

Other things which rock side to side, like a hammock, are better if they swing rather than rock.

It also just seamed strange to me, for example, how many side to side rocking chairs are there for adults?

If I built some type of mother baby rocker, I would make a baby seat kind of like you see in the baby rockers they sell at stores. Besides, who wants to rock laying down flat?
