just wondering
Hi there I am just starting to pursue my interest in woodworking as a hobby and this has got me thinking about wood and where do people obtain it from as over the past couple of weeks I have driven past some places that must be having a green waste verge pick up , and there have been what is some decent sized trees felled and because I am keen to used recycled timber in my projects I am wondering is this wood useful for say turning, bandsaw boxes ect.
If so what should one be looking for ??
Thanks
Jason

I get a fair bit of my wood from junk collections, old patios etc. Take what you can get I say. It's amazing what people will throw away.

Let me think of a few ways,
- Once friends and colleagues discover your hobby, they will present you with all sorts of leftovers;
- Skip diving;
- Off-cuts from furnature manufacturers;
- those 'couple of extra feet' from trips to the sawmill;
- The 'I know someone who's got a tree in their yard that needs taking down';
- Swops
