Places to get wood from
Hi all
Just moved into East Melbourne (Dandenong Ranges) from QLD and I am looking for places to get wood from. I looking for wood suitable to make bandsaw boxes, small projects and eventually slabs to make coffee tables and other furniture from.
Thank you.
Regards
Jason

Seems no one wants to share their preferred places for competition :P
Looks like suppliers in Dandenong...but I'm also looking for somewhere good for once I get my shop and saw set up.

Hi Jason,
I have a very wide range of rare and unusual Australian species (as woods) mostly in short boards, blocks and some logs.
These are best for smaller wood crafts/ projects - eg boxes, turnings, inlays, and a few species for coffee tables. Some trimmed burls, figured and spalted woods from all states (many inland species) as well.
But you have to be prepared to travel to Warragul (about 1.2 hrs) to see them if you are interested. Though I am not a commercial suppler, I continue to reduce my surplus stocks slowly for wood collectors world wide. Please PM me with any questions and provide me with some idea of your preferences, min sizes, quality etc. We can take it from there. You are welcome to come, chose and select those you want by prior arrangement. They are all dry, identified and kept in sheds for many years.
Cheers, Eugene

I don't think anyone is hiding their favourite suppliers, just not posting them.
This place is in your area and sound like they have some nice timber but I don't know how they compare in price. This is another one and this one.
I have heard these people mentioned previously
This is not my area so I don't know if they are good leads, just suggestions to get you started.Dallas

Never used them but Matthews timber Knoxfield and hazlewood and Hill burwood may be closer.

I would suggest Matthews timber, Birtton Timber and American Hardwoods.

Alister has lots of wood he has collected over the years that he keeps saying he needs to de-clutter/reduce. It's a woodworking school, not a shop. I recommend signing up for a class or two.
It's in Blackburn - http://www.mgfw.com.au/
