Thread: What is this wood?

What is this wood?
I have just been for a walk through the rainforest that surrounds us.
Still heaps of mementoes aka fallen trees from Cyclone Larry there.
Firstly, being a total ignoramus about timber in its natural state, can somebody tell me what this timber is?

Lee claims that after sitting in the forest for close to 2 years it is too old to cut up and will ruin any saw. Is that so?
There is enough wood in there to last my lifetime and more.
All I need to do is talk Lee into go getting it.
Thanks

Problem is, in the rainforest everything grows side by side, stick a match in the ground today and tomorrow you have a matchtree
Is teatree worth worrying about?
The DPI felled tons of that

the bark can be siply removed and it will not nurt the saw or if the bark is shallow it can be lifed up and hosed or brushed to remove the bulk of the dirt.

G'day wolff,
In Tassie where I am we get a permit from the Forestry Dept and go into the bush to "gather" downers.
some of the best Sassafras I have ever used has come from the ground.
The only Huon Pine or King Billy avaliable is downed trees.
Go for it, Remove the bark if possible, if not use a high pressure washer,
If all else fails use an old saw blade.
I have an old table saw I use to break down limbs too small to wory about milling, you will get some great timber. A lot of smaller limbs give you some of the best burl and figure. Here is some red Myrtle From a limbAttachment 61473
