Default Wood Boorer in Doos Jamb

    Good evening,
I completed building our house in 2007, l used a 15 year old external Door Jamb and Door (in excellent condition) for a West Facing Laundry Entry. Today l found fine powder at the base of the door, upon examination of the Jamb l have found 20 (what l persume to be) Boorer holes. From, my reading of some of the forums l believe l have 2 options , either treat with commerical preps (Rentokil or Bayer products) and hope these work or remove and replace the Jamb with new. I am having difficulty to understand the possible existence of the Boorer in 15 year old wood .The wood species is Meranti. Could some one please provide advice on the best of these options. The House is 5 years old , predominately Weatherboard , F10 Structure on concrete joists approx 20 - 60 centimetres off the ground sloping sth ward. Is it possible for these buggers to spread to the WA Karri Floorboards (l laid 150 sq/mts of them) they are glued/blind nailed to Yellow Tongue particle board and l would like to understand the probability of this occurring in light of my tretament options.
    Thank you.

It is an interesting question as I do not know myself why borers would be in timber after you moved this from another location. I am sure someone will come along to enlighten us both. Also welcome to the forum.

Hi Steve & welcome to the forum, the first thing that needs to be done is identify the type of borer that is in the timber. Some borers only attack timber in service others only newly felled trees some only sap wood etc. Identifying the culprit will help in proper treatment of the problem. I would recommend getting a reputable local pest control company to investigate and treat thevproblem.

    Cheers Rumnut
