Default How much wood have you bought from here?

After reading a thread about selling wood I realised that I have bought a lot of wood through the forums. I must have bought close to 10 m3 since 2003.

If you still remember "the rejected grade timber packs" from the good old days. I bought 6 packs from 2 purchases. And then there was Greg who constantly left timber outside my house.

    How much have you bought?

I'd say most of my timber stash is from Forum related timber suppliers or members.

It is easier for me and most of the time the person selling the timber is a known quality. Occasionally I'll take a punt on timber from a newer member and have not been disappointed.

I have never purchased timber through the forum for two reasons the main one is cost most of it is in the eastern sates well priced however I am in South Australiaand the freight prices kill off an advantage over purchasing locally

I've bought quite a bit from Greg, especially when I need something unusual. Bought a bit of camphor laurel that was advertised here, and have done a few swaps - sometimes not contemporary, i.e. I've given some away, and later on been given some.

Quite a bit really. Not in the cubic metre range, but quite a bit. I’m always looking for unusual or figured material. If I can get multiples of 40x90x9 out of material then I am prolly interested for one of the products I make and sell.

I buy 100% of timber through forum members, small amounts of good quality is what i'm after so i am well catered for. As for volume i don't know but money wise would be quite a few $000's

Almost all from forum members, mostly Mapleman, and Dusteater probably a dozen purchases over the last couple of years.
Mostly smaller packs, and very reasonably priced. I'm building up a nice stash of timber to practice with!
Mapleman supplied me with a lot of nice Blackwood, Camphor Laurel and Mango to play with at great prices.

And that's the thing, most sellers ask what they think is a reasonable price, if it isn't, the market says no, and they adjust. It isn't difficult, and it isn't greed.

I've bought wood multiple times from listings on this forum, and I have also bought wood from forum members that I have met in person as a direct result of getting in contact with them via these forums.

Well I got one of those legendary reject grade flooring packs years ago. I've used bits and pieces for all sorts of things but still have a huge stash under the house.

I also got a free pallet of the flood damaged timber in 2011 and posted sometime back pics of the bench I'm still completing from it. It's problematic but I've learned a lot working with it, especially about movement.

I've also bought quite a few second hand tools off forum members and other stuff. Very happy with all dealings, in fact some members are embarrassingly accommodating.

I couldn't be bothered wading into an argument. If you don't like the itemthe price or anything else you can always keep your money in your pocket...

I can't remember, I've bought, sold & swapped timber with members over the last 14 years.

Also bought, sold & swapped timber with club members, at WWW shows, & turning weekends.

Maybe not as much as you Mr. Wong but a steady stream on & off over the years.

The largest amount I've bought from one supplier would have been from Mapleman when he was up this way cutting up timber after cyclone Larry.

Take note of what it says just under my name.

I did get enough Qld Maple to make a dining table, also got some coffee table slabs & enough to make a couple of guitars.

All of it is aging in the shed.

I think the most that I have actually made is a bowl, the really thick block of maple has been cut to make a book matched Tele body.

    Monster amounts. Absolute monster.

3 cube in one go from Mapleman, One Billion pen blanks off him too!! ..... a truck and trailer load from DustEater on his way through PLUS about 10 massive boxes over the years, a HUGE pallet of blackwood from JohnG and an absolute HAUL from many Tassie members.

I've been exceedingly happy with all - as its different.

For boards I use the local places.

BUT geeeezzz, I would love a saw and alaskan!!!
