    Agreed, pushing a gouge around isn't a problem.
    Agreed, trying to "see" the final shape is the puzzle.

    Do you suggest, then, starting with a block of plasticine?
    As opposed, say, to adding gobs of it to a wire frame?

    I'll try whatever seems to be useful process.

    I sometimes use plasticine and perfeclty agree with underfoot's approach.
    But I model mainly by substraction and may modify after by addition if needed.
    Very good explanation, by the way.
