Hello sergio. Best bet is to visit your local library, join evening classes or talk to local woodies in a club if theres one near you. Why the interest in woodworking Sergio, are you thinking of giving up the golf?

    G'day sergio.
    What beejay1 said is good.
    Especially the evening classes.
I dont know how the education system works in your joint but here we have Technical Colleges which are like university for tradespeople.
These usually run short term after hours courses for anyone to join.
    Look for something like that.
Try your local council for any clubs in the area.

    Hi Sergio

The one thing that seems to be said to me most often is how on earth did you do that. Granted I've been at wood butchering for over 25 years as a carver, woodturner, cabinet maker, furniture maker, boat builder, carpenter and most recently tool maker; and have got to a point where I do things that most woodworkers don't dare try. It's not that I'm bragging about some fantastic ability I have its just that (and here's the most important way of thinking I can impart to anyone wanting to get into woodwork or is already neck deep into it) IM IGNORANT ENOUGH TO BELIEVE I CAN DO IT. So by the time I've painted myself into a corner it's too late to back out and I therefore have to carry on. Don't allow yourself to even think "it's" beyond you. And if what ever you're doing "fails" just tell who ever asks that it's a piece of modern art.

And google is your friend. I needed to build a phase converter so where did I go - to google. Had all I needed to know in about an hour. Needed to know how to build a forge to melt aluminium - google. Needed to know how to harden and temper back the tool steel chisels I make - google... And if you want to hang out with a bunch of great guys and gals Woodworkforums

    Default Modern art

    Hi Mathew,

Many thanks for such inspiring words! Guess now all I need to do is to take a piece of wood and give it shape, whatever would be. in any case it will be something related to modern art as you correctly mentioned. and yes, google does everything istead of us, th eprimary source of information. in a way we've become lasier and want everything done. may be that's the consequence of all this thing called evolution.

Not evolution, technology! Technology is the pursuit of making things easy, less time consuming, and so on.

Technology has some very funny consequences for evolution...

    Default Technology vs. evolution

Ok Woodlice, let it be technology and not evolution. And what would be the consequence of technology?

I was just thinking about how I first got into woodwork, and what I did to learn (not that I have finished learning of course...)

I looked up every book I could find on things that interested me, whether it was jointing, using power tools, or carving and so on, wrote down the ISBN's and relevant details from the books, and requested them all at my local library (at the time, it was a University library...) They got pretty much all the books I requested, bar only those out of print.

May be worth looking into. Start at google or amazon.
