Default What wood for a crib

Hi all, first post although I've enjoyed reading other threads here. I'm getting ready to make a convertible crib and I need some advice on what wood to use. My first thoughts were cherry or poplar but I was hoping to maybe make this one with an Australian hardwood... My first project since I moved to Australia so I'm totally ignorant of the wood here Thanks in advance

I have made two ( for the grandkids) in tassie oak
Easy to source, stains well, it's a good hard wood for dovetails

One of the nicest Australian hardwoods is Tasmanian Myrtle. Mathews Timbers has it, and there are probably other suppliers near you. There are plenty of other nice timbers too.

Went to the local timber merchant ( Wes Hughes) and bought stock tassi oak
Tassi oak is a trade name , most of it is much of a muchness, One of the reasons to use it , it is easy to source , go to your timber place and pick the bits you want , consistant colour, straight and grain are more important than which particular species.

Australian red cedar, light weight, stable, keeps moths, fleas and silverfish at bay.
