most have probably seen already or have something better up their slieve...but in case not I think its worth mentioning.

Wood Explorer

It gives a good comparision of data compiled from various references on timber types and their characteristics. A comparison is the only way to read it I think, because theirs so many opinions. And you really never get a comparison in timber books. Just one blokes opinion. and timbers qualitys are too diverse for that.

What mostly I like about it is in the 'understanding the data' tab it says.....

We have found there is rarely definitive data on any one characteristic of any one species. Even dry weight might be reported as 10 different values from 10 different scientific sources. Items such as "ease of sawing" or "heartwood color" might be reported very differently from source to source, making it difficult to provide accurate and useful data.

...which kinda means, I really have no reason at all to feel guilty about ever switching off everytime someone gives their opinion on wood. (really sorry if I've given anyone that impression. I do my best to hide it. honestly)

Have to pay for the site now though. only 10 bucks or something like that.
