Wood onto stumps
On one side of our house there is no wood at the bottom which means that you can easily crawl under the house. I want to get a plank of wood and lock it up. I inspected the other side of the house and the previous builder nailed the wood into the house stumps. My question is which nails do I have to use? Because I dont want to damage the stumps.
Am I required to first drill a fine hole then nail the wood into the stump or do I just nail it straight on? Or is there a better way of doing it?
Thanks heaps.

This would be better of being asked on the Renovate Forum in Flooring, Decking, Stumps, etc

But seeing as how I'm here anyways... I'd just use 4" galv bulletheads, nothing fancy. Simply nailed straight on, unless the stumps are old/rock-hard - or your hammer technique isn't the best - and a lot of nails are bending.
(That's when the extra effort of pre-drilling first becomes feasible)
