This morning in Wodonga I was shown an early set of wooden XC racers with plastic bases. Handsome skis. But wood being what it is the camber was diff. btwn the two and apparently there were all sorts of methods of preserving or correcting camber.

And it seems that Lignum Vitae was sometimes used as edge inserts. Hmm, that might be a challenge to source.

So Springwater, why do you fancy King Billy?

Just a gut feeling and it'll need some sort of a temper as in a stiffener and an edge protector.

Oh yeah, TL. There's a new brand of ski on the market that uses poplar and bamboo.

And up in the NE valleys of course there's long roads of poplar so there must be windfalls ;-) if I had the chainsaw, sealer and the rest of it.

Yeah, Fred's link has all of one article and part of another.

    ...

Most skis have wood as part of the mix. But some makers are revealing the wood or using wood only and some of what they produce is just gorgeous.
    Cheers, Ern
